PLC Integration Engineer (PIE)
We are looking for a PLC Integration Engineer to own the network and control-system layer of Laminar’s customer deployments. This is a hands-on technical role at the intersection of industrial automation, IT/OT networking, and edge software — you will be the person who gets Laminar’s sensors and edge devices online, stable, and talking to Food and Beverage factory control systems.
You will work directly with customer IT and OT teams to configure networks, commission PLC connections, and troubleshoot integration issues from first install through steady-state operation. When things break, you dig in and fix them. When patterns emerge, you document them, so the next deployment moves faster.
This role is a launchpad. Engineers who thrive here grow into edge software engineering, senior FDE roles with full account ownership, or go-to-market paths in sales and solutions engineering.
What You Will Do
-
Execute end-to-end network and PLC integration of Laminar’s edge devices into customer OT environments — both onsite and remotely — covering IP configuration, VLAN setup, DMZ architecture, firewall rules, and cloud connectivity.
-
Configure and troubleshoot industrial communication protocols including Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP/RTU, and PROFINET to establish reliable data exchange between Laminar hardware and customer PLCs/SCADA systems.
-
Diagnose and resolve network issues in the field: invalid IP configurations, DNS resolution failures, NTP sync problems, and general IT/OT network outages affecting data flow.
-
Work alongside customer process, IT, and OT teams during deployment pilots to bring Laminar sensors and edge hardware online reliably and on schedule.
-
Contribute to productizing the integration process — identify what is manual and repetitive today and help engineer it away so deployments scale faster tomorrow.
-
Support Site Acceptance Test (SAT) completion and customer sign-off in coordination with the broader FDE team.
-
Systematically document integration challenges, workarounds, and field patterns; translate learnings into structured, actionable feedback for the edge device engineering team.
-
Build and maintain integration runbooks, network topology diagrams, and troubleshooting guides that reduce time-to-resolution for recurring issues.
-
Serve as a frontline member of Laminar’s customer support function — monitor deployed site health, drive root-cause analysis on connectivity and hardware issues and create a feedback loop between field observations and product engineering to improve system resilience.
-
Actively support Laminar’s sales team on pre-sales discovery calls and answer customer questions on cybersecurity, network/IT/OT architecture to get their approval.
- Travel Requirement: Up to 50% — onsite at customer manufacturing facilities; typical visits 1–2 days.

About You
-
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
-
Hands-on experience with PLC platforms and industrial communication protocols: Ethernet/IP, Modbus (TCP and RTU), PROFINET, or equivalent.
-
Practical proficiency with Git/GitHub, Python scripting, and Linux command-line fundamentals.
-
Undergraduate coursework or equivalent demonstrated knowledge in networking fundamentals: IP addressing, subnetting, VLANs, DNS, NTP, and TCP/IP stack.
-
Comfortable getting hands dirty to debug data-flow problems — you understand what a network trace tells you and you know how to follow a packet.
-
Portfolio of projects (academic, personal, or professional) demonstrating proficiency in networking, systems integration, debugging, or problem-solving.
-
Strong cross-functional communicator — able to work across customer IT teams, plant-floor OT engineers, and internal software developers.
-
Willingness to travel up to 50% to customer sites as deployment schedules require.
-
Advanced Linux skills: shell scripting, systemd service management, network diagnostics (tcpdump, netstat, ip, nmap).
-
Experience with IT/OT convergence, Industry 4.0 architectures, or industrial network segmentation (Purdue model / ISA-99).
-
Familiarity with time-series or sensor data; ability to identify anomalies and performance degradation in data streams.
-
Experience with monitoring tooling, alerting infrastructure, or ticketing systems.
-
Startup mindset — adaptable, resourceful, and energized by building processes that don’t exist yet
